Speaker:
Brian Heaslet, MS, CSP, Safety Director of Sysco Alaska, Inc.
Born and raised in Anchorage, AK, Brian attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ, where he received a Master’s degree in Safety Science. He recently was awarded the title of Doctor among peers at Colorado Technical University. Brian has worked a series of safety management roles in various industries, including oil and gas, medevac, local government support, and food distribution.
Description:
Brian will discuss his academic dissertation titled, “Strategies ODC Managers Need to Reduce Resistance to Safety Process Changes in General Industry Operations.”
Specifically, this study examines the linkages between the OHS and Organizational Development and Change (ODC) fields. General industry OHS operations continually seek improvements to streamline efficiencies, optimizing the best-known safe work practices. However, changes in the workplace induce emotions of resistance. By utilizing the theories of ODC to evaluate the organization’s capacity for adaptability, the organizational professionals responsible for OHS changes can develop an appropriate Safety Management System program that is more likely to ensure each process improvement is sustainable.
