AKOSH New Inspection Program Targeting High Hazard Workplaces

Alaska Occupational Safety and Health (AKOSH) will be presenting on its updated enforcement around Penalties for Violations that went into effect on February 1, 2021. On January 25, 2021, AKOSH Enforcement sent out over 200 letters to employers across Alaska informing them they were selected for an unannounced enforcement inspection. Employers who meet the below conditions are randomly selected:

  1. The employer must have at least three recorded Worker’s Compensation Insurance loss time incidents over the previous state fiscal year (07/1/2018 – 6/30/2019).
  2. The employer must have a loss time rate that is greater than 90 percent of the overall average loss time rate for all industries in Alaska during the previous year. The last altogether reported year at the time of HHT selection is 2019. In the in-state fiscal year 2019, all industry loss time rate in Alaska was 1.03 incidents per 100 employees.

Learn about the AKOSH new inspection program to target workplaces with the highest injury and illness rates and what you can do to help your employer not be a target. AKOSH will also touch on the top-cited workplace health and safety issues and cover some workplace audit recommendations.

Eligible employers can request Consultation and Training assistance by providing a comprehensive review and analysis of your work site along with step-by-step guidance to meet occupational safety and health requirements.
