The presentation will engage the audience to examine how they are measuring their safety program to demonstrate organizational value. James D. Smith, M.S., CSP, will share his experience on why we measure safety performance and provide different examples of how to measure your safety program. This presentation is intended to engage the audience to consider moving away from just using or measuring OSHA Incident Rates to gauge your safety program.
Biography
James D. Smith, M.S., CSP, is the Regional Leader for risk control services for Arthur J. Gallagher and Company in South Florida. Jim manages a risk control engineering team which provides risk management and safety consultative service for clients in many different industries. Jim works on large clients with high retention and/or self-insured insurance programs with multiple location operations.
Jim has over 32 years of experience in risk management, safety, and claims management. Prior to joining Gallagher Company, Jim worked for over 18 years as a Corporate Risk, Safety and Claims Manager. Jim has received both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Industrial Safety from University of Central Missouri.
Jim is a Certified Safety Professional and a professional member of American Society of Safety Professionals. The American Society of Safety Professionals named him as the Society “Safety Professional of the Year” in 2004. In addition, Jim has received the ASSP President Award two times.
