Topic: Ergonomics In the Home Environment
As working from home has gained popularity at many companies due to the pandemic, questions and concerns related to proper ergonomics related to home workstations have increased.
Laurie Macchello will lead a discussion and presentation on ergonomics in the remote working environment and discuss the following topics during her presentation:
- The fundamentals and basic principles of ergonomics
- Identifying the most common workplace ergonomic problems
- Understanding the basics of ergonomic self-assessments
- Mitigating ergonomic risks in a remote work setting
Biography:
Laurie received her undergraduate degree from San Francisco State University and completed her graduate studies at University of California at San Francisco in 1989. She has been practicing in Alaska as a physical therapist for the past 28 years. She is the owner of Healthy Ergonomics, a consulting company providing office ergonomic evaluations for the past 13 years to companies in Anchorage and throughout the state. She is also the Director of Fitness for Duty and Ergonomics for Beacon Occupational Health Services, a safety and training organization which services medical clinics throughout Alaska.
Ms. Macchello has been affiliated with WorkSaver for the past 10 years performing functional evaluations for post-offer, pre-placement (new hire) and fit-for-duty FCES for return-to-work. Plus, she is an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage teaching in the Occupational Safety and Health Department. In addition to ergonomics, she also works on a per diem basis in a clinical setting, treating both orthopedic and neurological patients.
